Geist, the final line-up, has been together since May 2005 and formed around Songs For Your Neighbour, (toe in the water debut featuring John McDevitt & Neill Tupman from the current line-up), Anna Jenkins joined in 2004 during her last year at Trinity Music College, and Stuart Francis and Terry Hughes after hearing the first album. Dave Coston joined at the beggining of 2007 after playing for Geist as a session musician on the Decreasing Circles album.

Songs For Your Neighbour sold through the Unsigned Section on CD-Wow, remaining in the Top Ten for over 2 years and since the Unsigned section is now being wound down, it is now selling through www.cdbaby.comGeist have sold over 2,000 copies so far.

Geist were asked to provide a theme tune for the Channel 5 / Eye Film & TV programme A Different Life, which has been BAFTA nominated and has now completed its fourth and final series this Autumn. A lot of the incidental music for the programme has been taken from Songs for Your Neighbour.

Geist have been regularly playing live since May 2005 at various venues around the UK, from well known London music venues such as Bush Hall and The Betsey Trotwood to venues and pubs all over the country that feature live music. This approach has honed a fantastic live sound and gained a large number of fans in various spots around the country – Manchester, Brighton, Southampton etc and led to Geist being booked for various Festivals in 2006; Stroud Fringe, Bournemouth Live and Darvel in Scotland, to name but a few.

The Geist debut album proper, Decreasing Circles, was released on 14 February 2006 and is currently selling on www.amazon.co.uk, www.CD-Wow.com, TuneTribe and also at Geist gigs. To date, Geist have sold over 500 copies (September 2006).

Geist are building on a following that grew as soon as they started to gig last year and their aim is to carry on building on their growing fan base and unique sound.

GEIST SOUND

Geist are a 6-piece band that has an original sound featuring strong melodies and stimulating lyrics. The music shifts and engages with each other in harmonic compositions so artfully constructed that the tracks move between guitar rock, to haunting violin over to castanets and Spanish guitar and back to rock again with assurance and style. Folk Rock is a loose term for this group as they also add ska and funkiness into the mix. Needless to say, one can dance to them no problem, in fact you’d be hard pushed not to.

Geist – n. spirit; intellectual capacity or bent. Freedom or self-contained existence; freedom designated as ability to self-direct.
